The Ministry
How it all started
Kanaan Ministries started more than 20 years ago in River of Life congregation, Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, under pastor Edward Gibbens. Amanda's vision, from the start, was to teach God's children how to enjoy the life of victory and fullness God planned for us.
Amanda has been gifted to teach Godly principles clearly and precisely so that we receive the fullness of the Covenantal blessings when we apply these principles and ordinances in loving obedience.
The ministry started off from a basis of personal councelling, and developed into a teaching ministry where Biblical Principles are taught so that she could reach more people than in a one-on-one setting. This continued to develop into the Soul Care School as it is known today.
After moving to Cape Town in 1996, Amanda was part of a team that collated the Spiritual Mapping files which were the small beginnings of Cape Town Transformation. Noel Bell from Australia who is part of Intercessors International taught on prayer for the city, and David Tidy, from England, taught on Identificational Repentence, Leylines and Freemasonry. Many prayer journeys followed.
Since 1998 Amanda taught the Soul Care School at many churches in Cape Town as well as internationally.
Statement of Faith
Kanaan Ministries acknowledges the Scriptures as its ultimate standard. The Scriptures are inspired by God and useful for teaching, correcting, rebuking and giving instruction for rightliving. (2 Tim 3:16).
Below is a statement outlining particular interpretations of Scripture in specific areas. These are the interpretations we recognize at Kanaan Ministries. These interpretations may be clarified, altered or added as the Holy Spirit gives understanding.
- GOD We believe in a Loving God who is Personal, Spirit, Infinite, Eternal, present in every place and Lord of all.
- TRINITY We believe that the Trinity is the Unity of the Godhead - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit who are of One Substance, equal in power and glory.
- CREATION AND THE FALL We believe God created man in His own Image. Adam, the "first man", was created by God and he represents all mankind. He sinned and thus incurred the penalty of spiritual and physical death. As a result, all mankind are subject to death, inherit a sinful nature and are estranged from God. All sin proceeds from this fall and no man is able to deliver himself from sinfulness.
- YESHUA / JESUS We believe that Lord Yeshua Hammaschiach/ Jesus is the Eternal Son of God who became Man and lived amongst us. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to the virgin Mary. He is fully God and fully Man and the Mediator between God and man. We are saved by Him alone. We believe that Yeshua / Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit to proclaim and establish the Kingdom of God amongst men which He did by His perfect life and obedience even unto death on the cross, satisfying Divine justice and obtained for us the forgiveness of sins, reconciliation to God and the gift of eternal life. We believe in the Bodily resurrection of the Lord Yeshua / Jesus on the third day, His ascension to Heaven, where as our High Priest He intercedes on our behalf and sits at the Right Hand of the Father as Head of the Church, clothed with authority and power as Lord of all. We believe that on a day known only to God, the Lord Yeshua Hammaschiach / Jesus Christ will come again from Heaven with power and great glory. This is the hope of the Church for which we wait with sober watchfulness and diligence that we may be found ready at His coming.
- HOLY SPIRIT We believe in the Holy Spirit. He works freely as He wills, bringing mankind to salvation and empowerment. We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Scripture teaches that the Father never withholds the Holy Spirit from any who ask for Him. The Spirit leads us, comforts us, convicts and encourages us. He empowers believers for service and from Him flow the supernatural gifts.
- BORN AGAIN We believe that all who repent of their sin and receive Yeshua Hammaschiach / Jesus Christ by faith, are born again of the Holy Spirit and become children of God.
- SANCTIFICATION We believe that without holiness no man can see God. We believe that sanctification is the process of grace, which starts when we are born again and continues throughout our lives to grow in holiness after the Image of our Lord. We believe in the Biblical principle heterosexual relationships between natural man and natural woman and that this is the only marriage that constitutes holy matrimony.
- THE BODY We believe in One Body of which Yeshua Hammaschiach / Christ is the Head. We believe that the Body is made up of all who have been redeemed by Yeshua / Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the believers’ lifestyle should reflect the personal confession and commitment to their calling as followers of Yeshua / Jesus.
- MINISTRY We believe God raises up people to equip the Body for works of service. We recognize the "Five Fold" ministries of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher and believe in the "Priesthood of ALL believers".
- EVANGELISM We believe that the primary work of the Body is to finish the Great Commission. It is thus the privilege of every Believer to make this the primary focus of their walk with Yeshua / Jesus.
- SACRAMENTS We believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper are the two sacraments instituted by the Lord Yeshua Hammaschiach / Jesus Christ to be observed as acts of obedience, faith and as a perpetual witness to the Lordship of Yeshua Hammaschiach / Jesus. We believe that the Baptism in water of a believer, in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is a confession of their identification with Yeshua Hammaschiach / Christ in His burial and resurrection. We believe that the Lord's Supper, in which bread and wine are given and received, is a thankful remembrance of Yeshua / Jesus and of His sacrificial death on the cross until He comes again.
- LEADERSHIP We believe that God raises up and appoints leaders who are responsible for shepherding the sheep. We believe that leaders are called to govern diligently and that all partners are called to pray for, submit to and honour their leaders that their work will be a joy. We believe that the leaders are responsible for exercising discipline according to the Scriptural pattern.
- TITHING We believe that the Scripture teaches that part of our response to God's love is to bring our tithes and offerings in the manner set out in the Old Testament.
- JUDGEMENT AND ETERNAL LIFE We believe God will judge the just and the unjust on the basis of righteousness in Yeshua / Christ Jesus. The righteous shall be separated from the wicked. The wicked shall go away to eternal punishment but the righteous into eternal life.
Code of Team Ethics

A “Whatever it takes attitude”. An all out commitment to the team’s success. A discipline of my time, energy, money, etc. - I pledge total loyalty to my team leader.
1 Chronicles 12:18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was the chief of the thirty, and he said ‘We are yours, O David, and with you, O son of Jesse. Peace, peace to you, and peace to him who helps you. Indeed, your God helps you!’ then David received them and made them captains of the band. 1 Chronicles 11:15-19 - I commit myself to a disciplined life of PURITY, CHARITY AND INTEGRITY.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you Oh Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer,
Job 31:1 I have made a covenant with my eyes, how then could I gaze at a virgin?
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things, Love never fails;
Psalm 84:11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
I will endeavour, at all times, to walk in honesty, openness and humility about my self and my weaknesses.
Note: The above is a summary of the most important aspects by way of a Statement of Faith. There are many additional aspects of our faith, which are only summarized above. Kanaan Ministries is open to further truth, which the Holy Spirit may illuminate from the Scriptures.
